Balance Integrity Gets An Archive-Grade Test

IzioDev described a practical problem from helping an integrator verify balance integrity on very large addresses, where the input is a public key set plus announced balance snapshots such as 500 KAS on one date and 1,000 KAS on another. The simple route is heavy but understandable: rent a high-end machine, load a multi-terabyte archive into PostgreSQL, optionally run the indexer stack, and query the result against the chosen archive or anchoring point.

That path looked fine for small and medium addresses, but not for very high-volume ones. IzioDev said the accounting drifted by about 20% when trying to reproduce a current balance from the announced snapshot, and added that his first suspicion - either a bad point-in-time record or edge cases in the accounting logic - was later ruled out after checking with the integrator and supertypo.

The second route uses archived consensus databases, but that brings its own integrity problem. The archives are timestamped ranges that can overlap, so a later range may invalidate earlier data through normal reorg handling or simple overwrite rules. Different consensus database versions also mean a direct reader would need version-specific adapters.

IzioDev's current direction is to upgrade each database to the latest Rusty Kaspa code, merge the archives, and treat the newest archive as the base when conflicts appear. After that, the proposed verification path is to traverse the DAG from sink to pruning point to check for gaps, then take the current UTXO set and run it backward to reconstruct the UTXO set at the announced balance-snapshot time.

He has not completed the work yet, but the reason it matters is clear: this is not just a local debugging trick. IzioDev framed it as a possible base for enterprise use cases that need balance integrity "not as an option."
