KaChat has opened a public desktop test of its Kaspa-based messaging and wallet application. The builder warned users to expect bugs but described the build as stable enough for broader testing, moving the desktop version from preview discussion to an accessible application (KaChat, desktop test).
The desktop interface brings the main KaChat functions into a wide-screen layout rather than presenting a stripped-down messenger. The live build includes encrypted direct chats, group chats, public broadcast channels, KaPosts, a Kaspa wallet, KNS profiles, ecosystem links and account management. Users can create a new wallet identity or import an existing Kaspa recovery phrase, then use a chatting address and separate spending addresses inside the same application.
Direct conversations use an on-chain handshake before the recipient has contacted the sender. KaChat displays the handshake cost as 0.2 KAS and says it is returned when the recipient accepts. The interface also warns that sending the handshake reduces privacy. Once connected, chat actions include text, photos, voice recordings, KAS transfers, replies and chess.
Payment privacy is exposed as an account setting. When enabled, chat payments use fresh private addresses shared between contacts instead of routing every payment through the public chatting address. The sender can fund payments from private addresses, while recipients that share a fresh address can avoid reusing their visible chat identity for every transfer. The setting does not make the public handshake private and should not be treated as a blanket anonymity guarantee.
The desktop build adds controls expected from a persistent computer client. It can show desktop notifications for messages and wallet activity, play sounds, keep an account signed in, reconnect to healthier public nodes and use a custom Kaspa wRPC endpoint. A connection panel exposes the primary node, warm standby, latency, last sync and recent automatic reconnects. Users can also choose which explorer opens transaction and address links.
KaChat includes local message storage, configurable retention and import or export tools. Nextcloud can be used for large media, contact syncing and chat-history backup. The interface says contact syncing is read-only and runs on demand, importing only address-book entries that contain a Kaspa address. Recovery tools can rebuild conversations from on-chain handshake data, while diagnostics can be exported without private keys, recovery phrases or decrypted messages.
The public test also exposes broader social and wallet functions. KaPosts includes feeds, follows, replies, bookmarks, moderation controls and tips. Broadcasts are public, unencrypted channels whose messages are retained for 30 days. The wallet area includes receive and send functions, portfolio views, cold-storage navigation and KNS profile management. Child Mode can limit the visible application to chats, portfolio and cold storage.
This release follows earlier work on KaChat 4.0 payment privacy, including fresh receive addresses for chat payments. The desktop test packages that work into a usable public surface and adds the computer-specific connection, notification, storage and account controls needed for daily operation.
The current site is explicitly a test environment rather than a finished desktop release. It asks users to create or import wallet credentials, so testing with a new low-value account is safer than importing a primary wallet. The builder is actively pushing fixes to the test website and said deployed changes should appear within roughly ten minutes (follow-up).
KaChat now has a public desktop implementation that users can exercise instead of a feature list alone. The next test is whether encrypted messaging, node failover, wallet activity, backups and private-address payments remain reliable across long-running desktop sessions and account recovery.
